President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, recently chaired a virtual limited cabinet meeting while on an official state visit abroad. The meeting was convened to address a territorial dispute concerning four islands claimed by both Aceh and North Sumatra. Attended by key government officials, including the Minister of State Secretary, Minister of Home Affairs, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), the Governor of Aceh, and the Governor of North Sumatra, the primary objective was to finalize the administrative return of the islands to Aceh.
President Prabowo made a ruling, after a thorough review supported by relevant data and documentation, that Pulau Panjang, Pulau Lipan, Pulau Mangkir Gadang, and Pulau Mangkir Ketek officially fall within Aceh’s administrative territory. This decision is anticipated to bring about a peaceful resolution among all stakeholders and foster regional harmony. The resolution represents a significant milestone in addressing regional territorial concerns using diplomatic and constitutional methods and underscores the government’s dedication to promoting fair governance and unity among regions.
