National Children’s Day in Indonesia holds more significance than just an annual celebration. President Prabowo Subianto aims to leverage this occasion to take concrete actions in securing the future of the nation’s children. Dedek Prayudi, a Senior Expert at the Presidential Communications Office, outlined three flagship programs launched by the government to directly benefit children: Nutritious Free Meals (MBG), Free Health Checkups (CKG), and School Revitalization.
MBG, or Makan Bergizi Gratis, goes beyond just filling children’s stomachs – it ensures they receive essential daily nutrition. Shockingly, data from the Ministry of Health reveals that 60% of school-aged children attend school without having breakfast, leading to focus issues and fatigue. Skipping breakfast also contributes to iron deficiency anemia, impacting children’s IQ levels. Uki stressed the importance of MBG in delivering vital nutrients like iron to support children’s growth and development.
In addition to MBG, the government is implementing Free Health Checkups for students, covering various aspects like height, weight, vision, hearing, tuberculosis, and mental health. Uki emphasized that these programs align with the Constitution’s mandate to guarantee the right to health for all citizens, including children. By providing preventive care through CKG, the government aims to protect public health and address health issues before they escalate.
The third initiative focuses on School Revitalization, with plans to renovate 11,440 schools in early 2025. This program targets public and private schools at all levels in remote, underdeveloped, and densely populated urban areas lacking proper learning facilities. President Prabowo has allocated significant funds from the national budget to support this initiative, acknowledging the urgent need to address the high number of damaged schools across the country.
Uki highlighted the dire conditions in many schools, emphasizing the impact on girls who often struggle due to the lack of basic facilities like proper toilets. The School Revitalization Program aims to address issues of safety, dignity, and health by providing a conducive learning environment for all students. This comprehensive approach reflects the government’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being and future of Indonesia’s children.
