The Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program has been proven to significantly enhance children’s concentration levels, according to research conducted in Aceh and supported by the Expert Council Member of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Ikeu Tanziha. This improvement in concentration is expected to boost educational outcomes and motivate students to continue learning. A separate study by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) also showed that the MBG program improved learning focus and cognitive performance among students in various regions, such as Bogor and Papua. Specifically, the program benefited students who did not eat breakfast, as seen in a case study at State Vocational School 6 (SMK Negeri 6) in Medan.

Concentration, as explained by Ikeu, is essential for brain development during a child’s formative years and can be affected by factors like learning motivation, nutritional intake, psychological well-being, and physiological conditions. Nutrients like protein, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids play a crucial role in brain development and cognitive function, especially memory. Ikeu emphasized the importance of addressing children’s nutritional needs through the MBG Program to enhance cognitive potential and intelligence. Despite challenges such as unhealthy consumption behavior and limited access to nutritious foods in certain regions, the program aims to deliver lasting benefits for future generations and society as a whole. Ikeu stressed the collective role needed to support the successful implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals Program for the betterment of children’s education and overall well-being.
