Darius Rucker, an acclaimed country singer and Hootie & the Blowfish frontman, recently announced his involvement in the ownership group of Legacy Motor Club alongside seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson and Knighthead Capital Management. This move sees NASCAR legend Richard Petty transition into a team ambassador role after previously owning the team. Rucker expressed his long-standing love for NASCAR and highlighted his three-time GRAMMY award-winning status, as well as his recent recognition with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Legacy Motor Club is a two-car Toyota team, currently competing with the No. 42 and No. 43 entries driven by John Hunter Nemechek and Erik Jones, respectively. There are plans to expand to a third full-time entry by 2026. Although the team sits at 24th and 25th in driver points, they have not secured a win since their transformation from Petty GMS Motorsports. The last victory came in the 2022 Southern 500 with Jones behind the wheel.
In the current season, Legacy has achieved two top-ten finishes, both credited to Jones. He secured a tenth-place finish at Phoenix and demonstrated resilience by recovering from a mid-race spin to finish tenth at Darlington in the previous weekend. The team is optimistic about their future prospects and aims to enhance their competitive edge in upcoming races.
